Scott J. Peters is a historian, author, and leader in the civic engagement movement in American higher education. He served as Co-Director of Imagining America and is a professor in the Department of Global Development at Cornell University. 

He is the author of several books, including Democracy and Higher Education: Traditions and Stories of Civic Engagement (Michigan State University Press, 2010), and co-author of In the Struggle: Scholars and the Fight Against Industrial Agribusiness in California (New Village Press, 2021) with Daniel O’Connell. 

A leader in the interdisciplinary field of Civic Studies, O’Connell centers his work on advancing democratic varieties of public engagement in the academic profession. He lives in Ithaca, New York.
