50 years worth of stories, over 50 contributors, almost 150 interviewees, more than 400 pages – Stories from Alternate ROOTS: It’ll Take Some Tellin’ is finally here. And just in time for Alternate Roots’ 50th anniversary!

There will bean amazing crew of ROOTers in the house! Co-editors Yvette Angelique Hyater-Adams and Kathie deNobriga will be reading their work. You’ll sing with Elise Witt and enjoy readings by Alice Lovelace, Normando Ismay, and Ashley Walden. Your Emcee for the afternoon will be Ashlee Haze, and Executive Director Wendy Shenefelt will share some words.

This free event, hosted by Alternate Roots, will take place on Sunday, November 15, from 3-5pm, at The ArtsXChange in Atlanta, GA.

Join Robert Shetterly at Blue Hill Library for a book reading.

Americans Who Tell the Truth portrait artist Robert Shetterly will be joined by other writers and editors, reading from their self-published, newly released collection of essays Ground Truth: Writing Towards Justice. Proceeds from book orders will be donated to the Maine Immigrants Rights Coalition, the Maine Solidarity Fund, and Niweskok: Seeds to Stars.”

This event will take place on on Thursday, November 19, 2026, at 7 pm at Blue Hill Library in 26 Pleasant Street, Blue Hill, ME.

Lucy R. Lippard, author of Stuff: Instead of a Memoir, has an exhibit at The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. They are presenting From the Center: Looking at Lucy Lippard, a major exhibition exploring the lasting influence of writer, critic, curator, and activist Lucy R. Lippard on contemporary art. Spanning three floors, the exhibition draws primarily from the MCA Collection to examine themes central to Lippard’s six-decade career, including feminism, Conceptual art, activism, and the relationship between art and politics. Featuring artists she championed alongside later generations inspired by her work, From the Center celebrates Lippard’s enduring impact on contemporary artistic practice.

Americans Who Tell the Truth is excited to exhibit again this year at the annual New Jersey Education Association Convention in Atlantic City, November 5-6, 2026.

This year’s exhibit includes portraits of Ai-jen Poo, Woody Guthrie, Stacy Abrams, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Fannie Lou Hamer, along with many more. Americans Who Tell the Truth staff will facilitate activities that encourage interaction with the portraits and connect with the social justice issues that they represent.
