Illéne Pevec

 

Portrait of Illene PevecIlléne Pevec (1948–) PhD is a writer, researcher, and educator. She is the Fat City Farmers Program Director and a researcher with University of Colorado Boulder’s Children Youth and Environments Centers, part of CEDaR. 

For years, Pevec has worked with children around the world to create community gardens, deepening our understanding of how growing food impacts youth. These findings are reflected in her book, Growing A Life: Teen Gardeners Harvest Food, Health, and Joy (New Village Press, 2016). 

Her current work is in the mountains of Peru, where with an international team of community development and health professionals, she is helping to develop community gardens in barren environments.
