Lance Jay Brown FAIA, DPACSA, is an architect, editor, urban designer and educator. He is the principal of Lance Jay Brown Architecture + Urban Design in New York City and was the 2014 President of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, where he led the Civic Vision, Civic Spirit theme. Brown has also served as Assistant Director at the Design Arts Program of the National Endowment of the Arts.

Lance’s publications include Urban Design for an Urban Century (Wiley, 2009) and Beyond Zuccotti Park: Freedom of Assembly and the Occupation of Public Space (New Village Press, 2012), co-edited with Ronald Shiffman, Rick Bell, and Lynne Elizabeth. He is ACSA Distinguished Professor at the School of Architecture, City College of New York, and is a Founding Board member of the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization. 

In 2007, Lance was the recipient of the AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education. He holds two Masters from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and was a Fulbright Fellow in Paris. He was born in Brooklyn and continues to live in New York.
