Publishing Internship

New Village Press has been a nonprofit publisher in the humanities and social sciences since 2005, best known for books in community-based arts and culture, participatory and ecological design, sociology, poetry and creative nonfiction. Our interns are engaged in projects that range across the editorial, marketing, and production departments. Publicity projects are the most common. A three-month or full semester commitment is standard. Minimum weekly time during the school semesters is 12 hours. Minimum weekly time for summer internships is 18 hours, although many interns engage in 30 weekly hours. We are a small press located in the Upper West Side, New York City, publishing 8 to 12 titles per year. Our books are distributed by NYU Press.

Our unpaid internships are highly instructive and qualify for most for-credit university internship programs. Partially remote internships may be an option, although we favor working in-person. In our experience, interns learn the most from in-person training. Both graduate and undergraduate students may apply. Applications generally open two to three months prior to spring, summer, and fall academic seasons.
